Who’s gonna mount and inflate it?: I’ve mounted over a hundred automotive or pick-up tires on steel wheels with a bead breaker, tire irons, commercial tire lube and a Ken-Tool tire hammer. But this tire is a rear tire for a zero-turn mower and it was a beast to mount and defeated my efforts to inflate it. The shipping label was glued to plastic wrap that was tightly wrapped radially around the tire, compressing the side walls inwards. I immediately removed the plastic wrap and let the tire sit in the summer sun, hoping the sidewalls would relax and spring outwards. They didn’t quite go back far enough. With a Harbor Freight lawn mower tire tool, tire irons and the help of buddy, him to hold the tire and me working the tire irons, I got it mounted OK. But my 20 gallon compressor tank delivering 125 PSI through an air chuck with the center spring loaded pin removed, could not get the tire bead to seal against the rim. We tried one ratchet strap, then two ratchet straps around the tire circumference trying to squeeze the sidewalls so the bead could seal, to no avail. My buddy took it to tire shop who used one of those 6 gallon tanks with a ball valve that exhausts the tank so quickly through a 2″ nozzle that the moisture in the air condenses (due to the dewpoint change in pressure) and white moisture looks like it’s dry ice “steam”. (My buddy thought they were using CO2). So I gotta ask, who’s gonna mount and inflate this little beast? Be aware, it’s a challenge.
